AMERICAN SOCCER CLUB-NEW YORK RE-SIGNS DEFENDER ANDREW WATSON
West Sayville native returns to the Fighting Tomcats for the 2026 season
Long Island, NY (February 26th, 2026) – American Soccer Club-New York has announced the re-signing of defender Andrew Watson to a one-year deal for the 2026 National Premier Soccer League season. The former St. John the Baptist star returns for a second season with the Fighting Tomcats.
“I am super excited to re-sign,” said Watson. “Last year was a good starting point for the club and it’s something that I am stoked to continue. I have high expectations this year. Building off of last year, we have a very good team with very good coaches so I feel this year is going to be something special.”
This past season for Adelphi, the senior had an outstanding year starting 17 contests while logging a career-high 1,317 minutes. He was team captain and led the Panthers to the NCAA Tournament. Watson was named to the NE10 All-Rookie Team in 2022 and was selected to the NE10 Academic Honor Roll four times.
“Watty is a hard-nosed center back,” said ASC New York Head Coach John Fitzgerald. “He gets stuck in when needed and more importantly has excellent timing when stepping in to intercept thru passes from opponents. He’s calm under pressure and strong in the air. He knows when to “turn it on” and when to lighten things up, which makes him a good personality in the squad. We’re very happy to have him back for another season.”
At St. John the Baptist, Watson was a three-time All-League selection and was also named defensive MVP. He earned Magna Cum Laude honors four straight seasons. Growing up on Long Island, the West Sayville native played for Baymen SC before going on to KK Atletico and participating in the Olympic Development Program. He also played for the Long Island Rough Riders and the Staten Island Monarchs.
“I am super-impressed with the culture,” said Watson. “It’s not just the guys on the team who are on board but it’s the coaches and everyone on the staff including (Managing Partner and General Manager) Jim (Kilmeade). This makes it feel like a real family. It’s more than just soccer. We are building a community and it’s special to be a part of.”
American Soccer Club-New York will be making additional announcements in the upcoming weeks including player signings and schedule. The 2026 National Premier Soccer League season will begin in May. Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale will be the club’s primary home venue.
