2023 Steen Award Winner joins the Fighting Tomcats for the 2026 season
Long Island, NY (April 2nd, 2026) – American Soccer Club-New York has announced the signing of forward Tommy Poz to a one-year deal for the 2026 National Premier Soccer League season. Poz will be heading into his sophomore season with Hofstra University this fall after a brilliant career at Garden City High School.
The 2023 Steen Award winner is set to join the Fighting Tomcats.
“I’m really excited to sign with ASC New York and I’m grateful for the opportunity to be part of the club this season,” said Poz. “It’s a great step for me and I’m looking forward to coming into a competitive environment where I can keep developing my game. My expectations for the season are to make an instant impact on and off the field while working extremely hard. I want to bring consistency and energy to this team to help the group have a successful season.”
At Garden City High School, Poz had a spectacular senior season in 2023 with a school record 34 goals to go along with 6 assists earning him All-America honors and he was named the Jim Steen Award winner as the Nassau County Player of the Year, just like his father did in 1979.
And now the Trojans legend is a Fighting Tomcat.
“Tommy’s signing with American Soccer Club-New York is an incredibly well-deserved opportunity, and we couldn’t be prouder of him here at Garden City,” said Garden City High School Head Coach Paul Cutter. “During his time in the program, we reached the county final in all four years, winning two championships, and Tommy played a central role in that success. Tommy brought a genuine love for the game and an infectious enthusiasm every single day, and it made him a joy to coach. We’re thrilled to see him take this next step and can’t wait to watch him continue to succeed with ASC New York.”
As a junior at Garden City, Poz was named All-Region and All-Conference with 18 goals and 9 assists. As a freshman in 2020, he was named All-Conference with 7 goals and 5 assists before an injury-shorted sophomore season.
Poz led the Trojans to four consecutive conference championships, two Nassau County titles and a Long Island second-place finish. He finished his high school career with a school record 61 goals.
“Tommy is a pacey and lively forward,” said ASC New York Head Coach John Fitzgerald. “He’s still young, but he’s in a solid program at Hofstra University where his game will undoubtedly continue to progress. He’s super-energetic and unafraid, consistently giving opposing defenders problems. He was a standout at Garden City High School, an area where we’ve found some good young players. He has a proper attitude and will fit in nicely at ASC.”
As a freshman this past season at Hofstra, the 5-9 165-pound Poz played in 6 games and had 5 shots on goal. He is a finance major at Hofstra and was part of a nationally-ranked Pride team that went to the NCAA Quarterfinals. Poz began his soccer career playing for the Long Island Junior Soccer League’s Garden City Centennials.

Poz is ready to take the next step in his career and is looking forward to being a part of the Fighting Tomcats family.
“I’ve been really impressed with the culture around the team,” said Poz. “From what I’ve seen and heard from some of the former players, it feels like a professional environment. You can tell that everyone is committed to improving, competing, and pushing each other to a high standard, which is exactly the kind of environment I want to be in. It’s a great club to be a part of, and I’m excited to get started.”
American Soccer Club-New York will be making additional announcements in the upcoming weeks including player signings and new partnerships. The Fighting Tomcats will open their 2026 National Premier Soccer League season on May 2nd against the New York Shockers at historic Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, the club’s primary home venue.
