FORMER HOFSTRA COACH RICHARD NUTTALL TO RECEIVE AMERICAN SOCCER CLUB NY’S FIRST “LEGENDS OF THE GAME” AWARD

Legendary Hofstra Pride Men’s Soccer Coach to be honored at the ASC New York home opener

 
Long Island, NY (April 27th, 2026) – American Soccer Club-New York of the National Premier Soccer League has announced a “Legends of the Game” award that will be given out at each home game during the 2026 season. Former Hofstra Pride Men’s Head Coach Richard Nuttall will be the first recipient when he is honored prior to this Saturday’s 6pm Fighting Tomcats home opener against the New York Shockers at Mitchel Athletic Complex.
At each home game, the award will be given out to an individual who has made a lasting and meaningful impact on soccer across Long Island and the Metro New York region. The inaugural honoree is Nuttall, whose distinguished career has left an enduring mark on collegiate soccer and player development in the region.
“Richard Nuttall’s impact on the game across the Long Island/Metro New York area extends far beyond wins and losses,” said American Soccer Club NY Managing Partner and General Manager Jim Kilmeade.  “He transformed the Hofstra Men’s Soccer program into a national powerhouse and his legacy is reflected in the countless players he has mentored and coaches that developed through the program. He is a fitting choice as our first ‘Legend of the Game.’”
Widely respected for his leadership, commitment to excellence, and influence on generations of student-athletes, Nuttall exemplifies the spirit of the award. The “Legends of the Game” award is designed to recognize not only coaches, but also players, officials, and contributors whose dedication and achievements have elevated the sport and strengthened the soccer community.
“My life is a reflection and result of an incredibly supportive cast of wonderful people, both at Hofstra and in general,” said Nuttall. “More recently, my career has been underpinned by Hofstra President Susan Poser, Athletic Director Rick Cole, and the loving Hofstra community of where there are too many people to thank. Furthermore, I am thankful for my wife Christine, my family, and my friends who have been eternally altruistic, kind and loving.”
Recipients of the “Legends of the Game” award will be recognized for:
  • Sustained excellence and achievement
  • Leadership, integrity, and sportsmanship
  • Impact on player development and mentorship
  • Contributions to growing and strengthening the game
  • Lasting legacy within the regional soccer community
Coaches, Builders, Administrators, Referees, and key contributors to the sport will be eligible for the award.
Kickoff for the American Soccer Club NY home opener this Saturday will be at 6pm. Tickets are available at www.ascnewyork.com with all youth soccer players ages 10 and under receiving two complimentary tickets.
American Soccer Club-New York will be making additional announcements in the upcoming weeks including player signings and new partnerships. The Fighting Tomcats will open their 2026 National Premier Soccer League season on May 2nd “LifeVac Night” (U10 and Under Promo Special and 1st 100 fans get a FREE LifeVac) against the New York Shockers at historic Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, the club’s primary home venue.
