AMERICAN SOCCER CLUB NEW YORK CAPTURES INAUGURAL KICK ALS! CUP BEATING THE NEW YORK COSMOS 2-1

A crowd of 1,238 was in attendance at Lavalle Stadium

 
(Stony Brook, New York June 24th, 2026) – American Soccer Club New York defeated the New York Cosmos 2-1 in the inaugural KICK ALS! Cup exhibition match in front of a crowd of 1,238 fans at Lavalle Stadium on the campus of Stony Brook University. A portion of the proceeds from the game will benefit ALS Ride for Life.
In the first half, American Soccer Club NY grabbed a 1-0 lead when Junior Rosero took a feed from Kevin Romero and scored in the 33rd minute. For Rosero, it was his first goal since the striker joined the Fighting Tomcats on June 16th.
“I’m excited to score my first goal for American Soccer Club NY on this cup night against an historic team like the New York Cosmos,” said Rosero. “It was a great showing from the team in the first half. It got a bit ugly in the second half but I’m glad we were able to see out the win.”
Just before the halftime whistle, Brayden Walker scored in stoppage time to give the Fighting Tomcats a 2-0 lead. It stayed that way until the 55th minute when Chevone Marsh scored to break up the shutout.
Before the match, Bob Montgomery and Tom Lang were honored with the American Soccer Club NY “Legends of the Game” awards.
The inscription on Montgomery’s award read “In recognition of your outstanding contributions to the game of soccer, your exceptional leadership as Head Coach of Adelphi University, Region I ODP, USA U14, Academy Director for Red Bull New York and your enduring impact on generations of student-athletes throughout Long Island-Metro New York Region and across the United States.”
The inscription on Lang’s award read “In recognition of your outstanding contributions to the game of soccer, your exceptional leadership as Head Coach of Hofstra University, FDU, Southern Connecticut State University, Region I ODP, USA U18, and your enduring impact on generations of student-athletes throughout the Long Island Tri-State Region and across the United States.”
At halftime, KICK ALS! Co-Founder Tom Frahmke led the crowd in showing the red card to ALS and then following the game, Frahmke was part of the presentation of the KICK ALS! Cup trophy to American Soccer Club NY.
Next up for the Fighting Tomcats, 3-2-3 in NPSL play, a road match this Saturday June 27th at Santa Cruz FC.
“Great momentum for the team going into Saturday’s match,” said Rosero following the win over the Cosmos.
