ASCNY Announces John Fitzgerald as Head Coach
Long Island, NY — American Soccer Club New York (ASCNY) is proud to announce the appointment of John Fitzgerald as Head Coach. With over three decades of dedication to soccer at the professional, collegiate, and youth levels, Fitzgerald brings unparalleled experience and a proven track record of success to ASCNY.
Fitzgerald’s extensive coaching career includes time with the NY Cosmos, where he directed the Training and Development Program and served as assistant coach for the 2015 National Premier Soccer League National Champion NY Cosmos B. On the women’s side, he led the Long Island Lady Riders to a national championship in the W-League, earning the team an induction into the Long Island Soccer Player Hall of Fame in 2017.
A fixture in collegiate soccer, Fitzgerald spent two decades at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, guiding teams to six NCAA tournament appearances and mentoring numerous All-Americans. In recent years, he has served as the associate head coach of the Long Island Rough Riders and as a Match Director for Major League Soccer, overseeing in-stadium match-day operations since 2018.
Fitzgerald’s contributions to youth soccer are equally remarkable. As Boys Director for the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association ODP and Head Coach for the U16 ODP East Region, he has helped develop countless young talents. He is also a respected coach educator, serving as the Director of Coaching Education for the Long Island Junior Soccer League for over 20 years and holding top-tier coaching credentials, including a USSF A License.
