Red Rippers Supporters Group

The Red Rippers is the nickname given to ‘Strike Fighter Squadron 11” – a US Navy Fighter squadron that was aircraft carrier based in the 1980’s when the king of the skies were aircraft designed and built by Grumman and Fairchild Republic, both based in the Long Island – New York area.

That flight wing was a part of the deep aeronautic legacy that spans our 5-County area from the original Floyd Bennett field (Naval Air Station New York) to Idlewild airport (now JFK International) to Mitchel Field (site of Luck Lindy’s transcontinental flight) to the Suffolk County airports - Republic (Farmingdale), Macarthur (Islip) and Calverton (Yaphank).  Together with the engineers and mechanics that worked at Grumman, Fairchild-Republic and others in aviation production, this history of the Long Island – New York area is one that has always focused on Flight.

As the Club prepares to announce our moniker and mascot, the relevance of the Red Rippers as the official namesake for the ASC NY Supporters’ Group will be made apparent.

Watch this space as ASC NY prepares to make that announcement shortly.
