From Strong Foundations

While players and coaches are why we watch the game, play the game, love the game – the foundation for all of those experiences in our soccer community is the hundreds of men and women to be found in the rosters of the local Associations and Leagues Halls of Fame.  They are but the most visible example of all the volunteers and volunteer hours that are required to make the game come to life right here in our own neighborhood.

ASC NY will honor their legacy and the legacies being built now with the Club’s “Local Legends of the Game” program.

We have had the good fortune to personally intersect – through the sport & across the years – with some highly acclaimed ‘local legends’ including Pat Ryder, Tim Kevil, Joe Machnik, Tony Cangero, Gus Xikis & Clive Toye (we know you’re a New Yorker at heart, Clive).  We would also be remiss if we did not acknowledge the contagious passion that set many of us on this path at the very beginning, and from whom we were all first ‘infected’ – Gordon Bradley (Massapequa) and Peter Collins (Hicksville).  We are forever grateful.

Lastly, we consistently make use of the legacy U.S. Soccer logo (below) in a variety of ASC NY materials & collateral – it is our homage to one such legend that we claim as our own ‘Hometown Boy’ – Hank Steinbrecher (Levittown, NY).

Watch this space in 2025 as ASC New York commemorates the “Local Legends of the Game” with the ‘Starting 11’ legends that will be announced at a special event shortly after the New Year.
