ASC NEW YORK INKS FIRST TWO PLAYERS IN CLUB HISTORY

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. — American Soccer Club New York is proud to announce the first two players in the club’s history.

Striker Aidan Kolbe and defender Devin Heanue have signed with the first-year National Premier Soccer League club.

After beginning his youth career at Northport Cow Harbor United SC in the LIJSL, and also playing in the EDP youth league, Kolbe starred at Northport High School. He led his league in goals (18) and points (23) as a senior and fueled the Tigers’ first Suffolk County Final Four appearance in 40 years. He garnered League 1 MVP honors, was named all-state, and earned selection to the senior all-star team.

He spent the past two seasons at Stony Brook University, and recently announced his transfer to Molloy University. He played last summer in USL2.

“Aidan is a powerful striker,” ASC New York coach John Fitzgerald said. “He brings the type of tenacity and work rate we want up front. He’s able to make a defender’s life miserable, while also having the composure to score at the same time. He’s a local product, and I expect that he will represent Long Island well.”

Fitzgerald knows Heanue well, having coached the defender in USL2 last year.

Heanue appeared in 67 matches over five seasons with Binghamton, tallying three goals and five assists. A perennial all-academic honoree in America East, Heanue earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental science with a concentration in earth science and natural resources and went on to complete an MBA.

Now a Montauk resident, Heanue spent his youth playing for FC Westchester of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. He also was an iD2 Training Camp and USSF Market Training participant.

“I watched Devin play in college, and he impressed me to the point to have him in my USL2 squad last year. He didn’t disappoint,” Fitzgerald said. “He has a good engine that allows him to get up and down the field, and whips in a wicked cross. His understanding and timing as a defender will be key when we don’t have the ball.”

ASC New York will begin its inaugural season in the NPSL on Sunday, May 4, against Osner’s FC on Long Island. Stay tuned for the official kit release as well as upcoming announcements on the team’s home stadium, nickname and additional player signings.
