AMERICAN SOCCER CLUB RE-SIGNS JAMES THRISTINO
Former Comsewogue High School and Adelphi University forward is back with the Fighting Tomcats for 2026 season
Long Island, NY (January 7th) – American Soccer Club-New York has announced the re-signing of forward James Thristino to a one-year contract for the 2026 National Premier Soccer League season.
“I’m extremely happy to resign with ASC New York,” said Thristino. “I didn’t get to play a full season last summer as I came in a little later into the season so I’m looking really forward to starting at the beginning of the season this year. Last year, we fell just short of playoffs so that was definitely a little upsetting but as a player your goal is to always win the league and that’s what we’re hoping to do this summer.”
The 28-year-old Thristino is a native of Port Jefferson Station on Long Island and played for Comsewogue High School before his collegiate career at Adelphi University where he was an NE10 All-Conference First Team selection and a D2 CCA All-Region Second Team Selection during his senior season in 2018.
“James is a good and positive personality,” said ASC New York Head Coach John Fitzgerald. “I love having him on the team. He’s demanding of himself and those around him while maintaining game maturity and understanding. James is asenior guy on the squad who is a terrific role model for our younger players. He’s a solid competitor and a constant threat around goal. He manages himself like a pro, which is key for him to maintain such a high-performance level.”
Thristino returns for his second season with ASC New York having enjoyed the culture that was established last year for the club’s inaugural season. He played in and started three games scoring two goals and now he’s looking forward to the 2026 campaign.
“The club itself was appealing initially to me because I’ve never had a team on Long Island that was in a top league like this,” said Thristino. “It’s great to be able to play for a team where I was born and raised. I’ve also known the coaching staff on board here for a long time so I knew I’d have full trust in them and knew I had to commit to this project. The culture itself was exactly what I was looking for in a team.”
Professionally, Thristino also plays for the New York Pancyprian Freedoms in the APSL and previously played for the Brooklyn Italians in the NPSL from 2016 to 2020. Growing up on Long Island, he played youth soccer for Middle Country SC.
American Soccer Club-New York will be making additional announcements in the upcoming weeks including player signings, home venue and season/group ticket information. The 2026 National Premier Soccer League season will begin in May.
