ASCNY Announces Vic Munteen-Goal Keepers Coach

Long Island, NY —“Vic Muntean joins the American Soccer Club as a seasoned coach with extensive experience with collegiate  and youth player development programs. He has served as an assistant coach at Seton Hall University and Long Island University. While at Seton Hall, he played a pivotal role in the advancement of the men’s soccer program and specialized in goalkeeper development. This resulted in a 100 point improvement in the team’s win percentage, which helped them launch a 2020 Big East title winning campaign.

Before joining Seton Hall, Muntean was an assistant coach at his alma mater, Long Island University. His work with goalkeepers had a lasting impact as his keepers went on to win East Coast Conference Goalkeeper of the Year three times, with the team securing an additional three East Coast Conference titles and two East Region Championships.

Managing Partner / General Manager, Jim Kilmeade: “Vic is a high character New York native and a rising star in the NY Metro – Long Island region with a proven record in goalkeeper development. I am confident he will play a critical role in developing our keepers and helping them maximize their abilities””

Muntean’s dedication to nurturing talent extends beyond collegiate soccer. He has been deeply involved in the Olympic Development Program (ODP) with Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association since 2017 and with the USYS East Region since 2023, focusing on identifying and mentoring high-potential players to help them reach the next level of competition. He has also recently worked with the NYCFC Youth Programs and with the NYCFC Girls Academy Programs.

Vic’s expertise has been showcased at the USL-2 level since 2021, where he has worked with players transitioning to professional careers, including coaching standout goalkeeper Wessel Speel, an All-American and Mac Hermann Trophy semifinalist.

A former player himself, Muntean developed his skills at the famed Metropolitan Oval Academy in Queens, NY, nearby where his family immigrated to from Romania. Later, while continuing his development at Met Oval, he became a four-year varsity starter and three-year captain for his high-school team, the W.T Clarke Rams. He went on to play at Long Island University, where he helped the team win two East Coast Conference titles and one East Region Championship.”

Head Coach John Fitzgerald: “Vic Muntean is one of the top GK coaches in the region. He brings experience working with Division 1 College, ODP and USL2 GK’s to the table. His training methods are cutting edge and exploratory, and having worked together I rely on his input. He understands the needs of the GK at this level and will invaluable part of our coaching staff”
